Mounted plants FAQ

Common questions about caring for your mounted plant.

Water when the moss feels dry and hard to the touch. This is typically 1–2 times per week for most plants, but depends on plant type.

You have two options:

  • Remove from the wall and soak plant side down for 10–20 minutes
  • Or run under water (sink or shower) for 3–5 minutes until the moss is fully saturated and soft again

Yes! The cork bark can get wet—it won’t harm the mount.

Most mounted plants appreciate a light mist to increase humidity, but misting alone is not enough to fully water the plant.

Mounted plants need to be soaked or run under water for 3–5 minutes in order to become fully saturated.

Mounted plants are exposed to air on all sides, so they dry out faster than potted plants. This is completely normal—just water more frequently as needed.

Most prefer bright, indirect light, but needs vary depending on the plant.

Check your specific plant listing for exact light requirements.

Yes! Mounted plants love humidity, so bathrooms (with good light) are a great option.

Yes—over time, roots may attach directly to the cork bark. This is a natural part of its growth.

Over time, your plant will continue to grow and may eventually outgrow its mount.

You’ll know it’s time to re-moss or “repot” when:

  • There are a lot of roots growing out of the mount
  • The mount is drying out much faster than usual

At that point, you can:

  • Cut open the moss and plant it in a regular pot
  • Or bring it back to Plants & What Knot to be remounted

Your plant can be remounted on the same piece of cork or upgraded to a larger piece as it grows.

💡 Remounting services start at $20
