Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ Mounted Wall Art
Silvery foliage cascades across natural cork bark in our handcrafted Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ Mount. Its petite, heart-shaped leaves are washed in icy shades of silver and soft green, creating a luminous trailing display that beautifully contrasts with the rugged texture of the bark and moss.
Designed to hang directly on the wall, this mounted Hoya transforms a living plant into a one-of-a-kind piece of botanical wall art.
About the Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’
Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ (Hoya krohniana ‘Arctic’) is a silver-leaf variety of Hoya native to the Philippines. It is known for its compact growth, delicate trailing vines, and heavily silvered foliage, which gives each leaf an almost frosted appearance.
In its natural tropical habitat, Hoya grows as an epiphyte—using trees for support while absorbing moisture and nutrients from the surrounding environment. Mature plants may also produce clusters of small, fragrant, star-shaped flowers.
Why Cork Bark?
Mounting the plant onto natural cork bark allows it to mimic the way it grows in its native environment, with its roots attaching to the bark and its vines trailing or climbing along the surface like they would on a tree.
Cork bark is naturally water-resistant, antimicrobial, and porous. Its breathable structure allows air to circulate around the plant’s roots while safely handling the moisture required for watering. Over time, the Hoya can begin to attach itself to the bark, making the mount feel increasingly organic and alive as it grows.
Why You’ll Love It
The Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ Mount brings together icy silver foliage, delicate trailing vines, and the rugged texture of natural cork bark. Its petite leaves create a lush but airy appearance, making it easy to incorporate into a gallery wall or display as a standalone piece of living art.
Despite its rare and delicate appearance, this Hoya is relatively easy to care for. Its waxy leaves store moisture, making it forgiving of an occasional missed watering and a beautiful choice for both Hoya collectors and newer plant parents.
Approximate Size
The cork bark shown measures approximately 15 × 12 inches. Every piece of natural cork bark has its own shape, texture, dimensions, and character, so your finished mount will not be an exact replica of the piece pictured.
Each plant is thoughtfully matched with an individual piece of cork based on the plant’s size, shape, growth pattern, and natural characteristics. Your mounted Hoya will be similar in overall size and appearance, but some variation should be expected.
Care Instructions
-
Light: Place in bright, indirect light to maintain its dense growth and vibrant silver coloring. It can tolerate medium indirect light but may grow more slowly. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which may scorch the foliage.
-
Watering: When the moss feels dry, remove the mount from the wall and run water gently over the moss until it feels soft and pillowy again—usually for a few minutes. Alternatively, soak the moss-covered root area in water for approximately 10–15 minutes. Allow the mount to drain thoroughly before rehanging, and avoid keeping the moss constantly wet.
-
Humidity: Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ appreciates moderate humidity but adapts well to average household conditions. The naturally porous cork bark helps provide airflow around the plant’s roots.
-
Display: Hang the mount where its vines have room to trail or climb. Keep it away from heating vents, air-conditioning drafts, and walls that could be affected by residual moisture.
-
Growth: Allow the vines to cascade naturally or gently guide them across the cork as they grow. Avoid repeatedly moving or cutting long, leafless tendrils, as they may eventually develop new leaves or flowers.
-
Pruning: Trim overly long vines to maintain your desired shape. Avoid removing old flower spurs after blooming, as Hoyas can produce flowers repeatedly from the same location.
Naturally One of a Kind
Every Plants & What Knot living plant mount is handmade by Christina and Mom using a living plant, moss, and an individually selected piece of natural cork bark. Because no two plants or pieces of cork are alike, variations in the bark’s size, shape, color, and texture—as well as the plant’s fullness, silver patterning, and vine length—are part of the artwork’s natural beauty.
Experience living art with a handcrafted Hoya Krohniana ‘Arctic’ Mount—a luminous cascade of silver foliage growing across natural cork bark just as it would climb through the trees of its native tropical habitat.
